The framing that grabbed me: Bitcoin is best understood as a philosophical object, not a technical one. María spends less time on how it works and more on what it means, and that shift is where the book is strongest.
A few things that stuck with me:
- Bitcoin as a philosophical object. Strip away the cryptography and what's left is a set of claims about trust, scarcity, and authority. Treating it as an idea rather than a protocol is what makes those claims visible.
- The critique of fiat. The case against state-backed money, currency that exists at the discretion of a third party, is the sharpest thread here.
- Money as political. A useful reminder that money is never neutral: who gets to issue it, and on what terms, is a question about power, not economics.
The best of it lives on the border between money and philosophy, and when the book stays there it's genuinely sharp. The strong ideas are surrounded by stretches that restate them rather than push further, but it's worth reading for the framing.
